The painting's title “Together Towards The Light” can be taken literally, as trees stretch up together to get as much sunlight possible for photosynthesis and this competition makes them very very tall but they also make room for each other, not crossing branches, and when an old tree dies the waiting saplings get their chance to grow up and fill the space. Things like this I've read in the book The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben. But the title also makes me think of us as people, how I'm an optimist and try to lift up other people. Sometimes my paintings and prints are hung up by and for people who are experiencing end of life, and they seem to always pick the forests with light streaming down, like the final light we see at the end.
